The second seed will line up against the winner from number one Novak Djokovic and Czech number three Tomas Berdych after the top four reached  the semis at the Impact arena for the first time since 2004.

If Djokovic goes through over Berdych in the pair's first-ever meeting, the Serb will face Tsonga on Sunday in a repeat of the January Australian Open final won by Djokovic in four sets.

That lineup would be fine by the eager Tsonga, who spent just 52 minutes in thrashing Monfils with seven aces, 23 winners and four breaks of serve.

"It would be my chance to take revenge," said the number 20. "I'm very happy with my game and my form.

"I never expected to play so well and get such a big win against Gael. To be in the final is like a dream for me."  Tsonga missed mid-season with his knee troubles, returning only at the US Open. Bangkok is the second ATP final of his career.

Tsonga raced away to 5-0 in 15 minutes and swept up the opening set six minutes later. Monfils steadied briefly in the second but could not stop his compatriot's momentum.

Tsonga broke for 4-2 and claimed the brief win on his first match point as he fired over a service winner.
