New Energy Minister puts hold on LPG pricing

Newly-appointed Energy Minister Wannarat Charnnukul would have the prime minister-chaired National Energy Policy Committee to give a final say on the proposed hike in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for transportation and industrial use.

He said this issue would wait till the prime minister reveals the government's policies to Parliament, as it counters the six energy measures which would end in January. One of the six measures is to withold the gas price for six months, from August 1.

On his first day in office, he also supported the gasohol E85 policy, citing that it is the right policy to promote alternative fuels.

He also urged the ministry to speed up budget reimbursement.

The ministry has reimbursed Bt1.49 billion, or 89 per cent of the Bt1.66 billion budget allocated for the 2008 fiscal budget.

He also urged officials to uphold 4 work philosophies: fast, knowledgeable in IT, effective and transparent. All units are summoned to summarise their operations and obstacles.
