No favouritism for northern MPs in the Cabinet line-up: Worawat

The Cabinet line-up was based on individual qualifications and not factional quotas as speculated, Culture Minister Worawat Ua-apinyakul said on Thursday.

The People Power Party remained unified inspite of speculation about squabbling on the allocation of Cabinet seats, he said.

He dimissed the allegation about favouritism after MPs from the North and Bangkok secured 15 ministerial portfolios while the Friends of Newin faction members were appointed to three positions.

For the seats alloted to the North, he and Transport Minister Santi Prompat were appointed, he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Sompong Amornwiwat secured his job through a central quota and Education Minister Srimuang Charoensiri was appointed via the quota allocated for the Northeast, he said.

He also claimed that none of the MPs speculated about the anticipated resignation of their party leader Samak Sundaravej. The speculation was spreaded by Samak's aide Theeraphol Noprumpa on Wednesday, he said.
