Anupong welcomes PM's dual post at Defence
Army chief keeps mum on Chavalit's job
The armed forces are ready to accept the leadership of a civilian, Army chief General Anupong Paochinda said on Thursday in reference to Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat taking the dual position of Defence Minister.
Anupong refused, however, to comment on Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh taking charge of security affairs.
He said he would withold his opinions until the prime minister delegated the duties to Chavalit.
He also urged the government to quickly designate a negotiator to deal with the People's Alliance for Democracy in order to end street protests.
