Matchima Thipataya dissolution case goes to court

Public prosecutors yesterday filed a suit with the Constitution Court seeking the dissolution of the Matchima Thipataya Party after the Election Commission found its executives had bought votes.

Attorney-General Chaikasem Nitisiri said yesterday that he had endorsed the decision.

Special Litigation Department deputy director-general Surasak Trirattrakul said he had filed the case against Matchima Thipataya with the Constitution Court. He added that public prosecutors were also looking into the Chart Thai Party's dissolution case to ensure there were no loopholes. Once it is ready, they will seek indictment next week.

Deputy Attorney-General Chulasing Wasantasing said the public prosecutors would meet tomorrow to work on the People Power Party's dissolution case. The EC is waiting for a decision from the attorney-general on whether to recommend PPP's dissolution to the Constitution Court after the Supreme Court's Electoral Fraud Division disqualified former PPP deputy leader Yongyuth Tiyapairat for having bought votes.

If the Constitution Court dissolves any political party, the leader and its executive board would be banned from political activities for five years.
