Last minute horse trading for Cabinet seats

The Ban Rim Nam faction of the Puea Pandin Party on Tuesday threatened to oppose the allocation of Cabinet seats if its two MPs failed to secure appointments.

The faction has nominated Suradet Yasawat and Pichet Tancharoen for ministerial portfolios, MP Prapt Wisetchindawatana said.

The People Power Party has set four ministerial portolios under the Puea Pandin quota.

Puea Pandin leader Suwit Khunkitti has declined his nomination and named his deputy and MP Pracha Phromnok for the industry portfolio, party spokesman Chaiyos Jiramethakorn said.

In related development, PPP deputy leader Kan Thienkaew said his party's Friends of Newin faction would receive four Cabinet seats.

The faction has nominated MP Suthin Klangsang as a first-time candidate for the position of deputy minister, Kan said.

For the position of finance minister, incumbent Deputy Finance Minister Suchart Thadathamrongvej is slated for promotion, he said.

Former banker Olarn Chaipravat is tipped to become deputy prime minister in charge of economic affairs.
