The Energy Regulatory Commission on Friday agreed to raise the fuel tariff for the October-December round by 14.85 satang per unit, raising the power bill by 5.17 per cent from the previous round to Bt3.20 per unit.
The FT should have been raised 57.22 satang, but for PTT's Bt3.6 billion sum from the take or pay gas contract with Burma. Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand also agreed to allocate the Bt4.3 billion penalties paid by Arthit gas field operator to bring down the power price. This reduced the FT by 12.68 satang
The remaining increase would be factored in the FT in the 3 subsequent rounds.
Noppadon Manthachit, a member of the commission, said on average the FT in the 3 subsequent rounds would rise 14.85 satang per unit, based on the average gas price at Bt230 per million BTU and bunker oil price at $83 per barrel. However, the exact increases would depend on the fuel prices in the period.
