Floods cripple railway in Khon Kaen

PTT had to transport liquefied petroleum gas from its depot in Khon Kaen through 60 trucks, after heavy rains led to mudslides and crippled the railway.

He said those trucks must make a detour to avoid some roads. Despite the extra length from 44 km to 90 km, the depot manager Surat Jiamlertwiwat said the product price would remain unchanged.

He noted that in the past week, as floods hit many areas in the Northeast region, the gas demand has dropped by 20 per cent from the earlier period.

It is expected that the State Railway of Thailand will fix the damaged part of the railway within a few days. The damage area is about 300 metres of length.

Somboon Duangdeethaweesap, managing director of Somboon Oil Station Co Ltd - a major service station in the province, said due to floods, fuel sale has dropped by half.

"People travel less. Though oil prices are falling this week, it has no impact on the volume of traffic on the roads," he said.
