Thai hotel/food fair unaffected by chaos

Food and Hotel Thailand 2008 has welcomed 12,000 visitors in the first two days, up 13 per cent from last year despite the organiser's fears of lower traffic due to the political turbulence.

Foreign visitors accounted for 6.75 per cent of total, said organiser Bangkok Exhibition Services Co Ltd.

"Foreign businessmen still see the potential of Thai businesses in the service sector, particularly those in hotel, food and spa segments. The number of visitors and transactions are above our expectations. The political and economic impacts to the fair are not as serious as thought," David Aitken, general manager of the organising committee.

The fair at Siam Paragon, starting on September 17, will end today. Earlier, the organiser revised down the expected transaction value to Bt4-Bt5 billion from original forecast of Bt7 billion.
