Interactive elearning via Education Ministry TV channel

Acting Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat yesterday launched a pilot project for interactive electronic learning through the Education Ministry's television channel.

The fouryear project would allow students from Prathom 4 to Matthayom 3 in 3,000 schools to learn from highly proficient teachers, especially in mathematics, science and English language.

From the Bt400million budget, the project would spend Bt90 million to produce 900 hour teaching episodes while the rest would be used to equip participating schools with the necessary tools. The first phase this year would begin in 12 schools nationwide and the second phase next year would cover 280 schools. The project would have 1,200 schools participating in the third phase and another 1,300 would be added in the fourth.

During the pilot, the ministry would be responsible for the content and expert teachers while Samart Corp would cover the studio, production, broadcasts and equipment for participating schools, but only charge the satellite channel rental fee.

This distance learning would enable students to study and ask questions immediately via highspeed Internet connections while the class teaching episodes would also be recorded on a server for schools to download for lesson reviews.
