Somchai advised against justice interference

Chart Thai Party leader Banharn Silapa-archa advised caretaker Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat not to interfere in the justice system the night before House voted him as the country 26th PM, a source said on Wednesday.

Char Thai Party held a meeting before House called a vote for PM nomination on Wednesday. Banharn reportedly told his party MPs to strictly toe the party line by voting for Somchai. He said during the five coalition parties meeting at JW Mariott Hotel on Tuesday evening, he gave some advice to Somchai not to meddle with the justice system in regard to the corruption cases against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. "Even though he is related to the Thaksin's family, he should let every thing go according to the justice system. Do not interfere,'' Banharn was quoted as telling Somchai.

He also advised Somchai to be wary of encroaching in any way on royal powers. He suggested that Somchai refrain from setting time frame on any royal appointments of any officials and do not behave in any way that would make the public feel that his administration is the nominee government.

Banharn also recommended that Somchai negotiate with the People's Alliance for Democracy to leave Government House and to keep on meeting them even though his first meeting with them fails.
