NBT Channel staff want govt to stop meddling

Some 20 technicians from the NBT channel lodged a petition yesterday demanding that television station distance itself from partisan politics.

The petition made three demands: returning the channel's original Channel 11 logo because NBT was too politicised; adjusting everyone's salaries to a level comparable to newcomers from the defunct iTV station; and closing the gap between the allowances granted at various levels in the station.

At present, entry-level salaries start at Bt7,500 per month, while former iTV employees get Bt20,000.

The station's technicians also said they wanted the political meddling to stop.

The channel's reputation has been tarnished since April 1, after former PM's office minister Jakrapob Penkair changed the station's logo and revamped the programming by allocating air time to former iTV news anchors.

With regards to the controversial talk show "Truth Today", government deputy spokesman and host Nattawut Saikua said his programme was produced by an independent production house and aired under concession. He said the station's technicians did not include his show in their demands.
