Light colours add space, brighten homes

What does one do to add space and functionality to a home that feels too cramped for one's lifestyle?

perspective of the Chur project

Prinsiri assistant manager for design Nattapat Suppol suggests that before designing a house, homeowners should know what they want and what will suit their lifestyles.

If you stay in a condominium that has narrow spaces, you have to pick a functional unit that matches your lifestyle.

You can make the best use of a small space by combining a livingroom area with a kitchen, a work space and a place to relax by using movable and builtin furniture.

Nattapat said when you select raw materials for your furniture, go for light colours. These will help narrow spaces look wider than they are. You can choose between glass, stainless steel and wood to design the area.

Meanwhile, SC Asset's senior interior designer Udomsin Lattititham said interiors designed predominantly in white create a per¬ception of a bigger space, as well as giving a cleaner appearance.

Cream colour, used mostly for main furnishings, such as carpets, curtains and livingroom sofas, helps create a warm ambience for owners and visitors alike.

He said that when you design con¬dominium units or townhouses, which usually have more narrow spaces as compared to detached houses, you have to concentrate on creating a functional design that offers flexibility and can be modified into anything the owners may want, such as a family area or a work space.

Udomsin advises owners of townhouses and condominiums to employ innovative design concepts and employ light colours for the inte¬rior decor. This way, homes will seems more spacious. Light colours also make it easier to decorate the house because they match easily with most furnishings.

If homeowners are willing to increase their budget by Bt50,000 to Bt100,000, they can install an elec¬tronic security system, that can transform their condominium or townhouse into an intelligent home to match their modern lifestyle.

With "intelligent" house systems, homeowners can use 3G technology to log into the security system from outside the house and keep a check on the premises though their mobilephone screens. The front door can also be unlocked by using a mobile phone.
