
Symantec South Asia vice president and head of global accounts in Asia Pacific and Japan, Eric Hoh, said the Security Response Centre provided customers comprehensive, global, 24X7 Internet-security expertise to guard against complex Internet threats as well as global trends in technology because, as of now, customers' systems were facing attacks from outside as well as inside the network. By some estimates, the number of attacks had grown from 53 per cent in the second half of 2006 to 68 per cent last year.
The company's executive vice president and chief technology officer Mark Bregman said there were four key global trends in technology that were emerging in the market which included migration from tape to disk, making information the target, IT governance and customisation of IT to improve business security and, lastly, system management.
To support the global trends, Hoh said the company had developed a new generation of storage, security and management solutions to support future environments and the market such as Symantec enterprise security management - which managed security services and database security to identify threats, prevent loss of critical data and make the most of valuable administrative resources - and storage foundation solutions, which offers a complete solution for heterogeneous online storage management.
"We provide a lot of secure and information management in the real world to help customers reduce cost and become confident to connect in the network," Hoh said.
He said the firm had strengthened security and data-protection solutions to support businesses. It had management solutions to reduce operational costs and improve performance which makes business and people free to work and play with confidence in a connected world.
"We have our own technology environment, technological know-how and people to develop the next generation of services and solutions to provide comprehensive solutions to customers," Hoh said.
Moreover, the company has announced the Visionary Award winner for the South Asia region to IT leaders from A*STAR Computational Resource Center (Singapore), Malaysia Airline System (Malaysia), Excelcomindo Pratama (Indonesia), ICICI Bank (India) and TVS Motor (India), all of which use Symantec products and services to secure and manage their systems and information.
He said Symantec spent 15 per cent of total revenue or about US$900 million to invest in research and development every year, to create the next generation of technology and innovation to address customers and market needs.
The company has next-generation solutions to support market and address customers' needs such as the Symantec enterprise security management solutions, backup and recovery solutions, control compliance solution, and storage management solutions.
In the Thai market, the company distributes its services and solutions through business partners such as CDG Group, SIS and Ingram Micro and MFEC. It also has partner programmes to update technology in order to support customers.
