Two Muslims killed, eight troops injured in South

Three members of a paramilitary force and five soldiers were injured in two ambushes here yesterday morning, police said, while two Muslims were killed in incidents in Narathiwat and Pattani.

The paramilitaries were injured in an ambush on the Yaha-Patae Road in Yaha at 11.40am.

Police said the team was headed to where soldiers had been ambushed in an earlier attack.

They were fired upon as they neared the scene and a 10-minute gunfight ensued.

An hour later in Muang district an Army patrol was bombed on the Yala-Banang Sata Road.

The soldiers exchanged fire with insurgents, resulting in five troopers being injured.

Meanwhile, two Muslim men were killed in separate shootings late Sunday and yesterday.

A 24-year-old hospital worker was shot in the back while riding a motorcycle in Narathiwat, police said.

A 41-year-old worker was gunned down in a drive-by shooting as he rode home from a mosque late on Sunday in Pattani.
