Oil Fund raises fuel sale contribution

The Energy Policy Committee on Friday resolved to raised the compulsory contribution to the Oil Fund by 25-30 satang per litre, effective tomorrow. Though, while the increase would boost the fund's liquidity, it would not affect retail prices now that global oil prices are declining.

The West Texas crude yesterday eased another US$1.46 to end at $107.89 a barrel.

Under the resolution, retailers are subject to pay higher contributions from the sale of all fuel products. The contribution from all products, but octane-95 petrol, would be raised by 30 satang per litre. The premium petrol's rate would be increased only 25 satang.

Under the new rates, the contribution from octane-95 petrol would be Bt4 per litre, octane-91 petrol to Bt3.60, gasohol 95 Bt0.85, diesel Bt0.70, gasohol 91 Bt0.35 and gasohol E20 Bt0.30. The decision also leads to a cut in government subsidies for biodiesel B5 to Bt0.70 per litre.
