EC takes up Democrat disqualification case

The Election Commission (EC) is expected on Thursday to start its probe on the disqualification of Democrat Party deputy leader Withoon Nambutr, EC member Sumeth Upanisakorn said.

He said it was unlikely that the EC would come up with the resolution within one meeting because there is a lot of evidence.

The EC's decision on whether to disqualify Withoon or not will have a far-reaching consequences because the decision would threaten the very existence of the Democrat Party.

The EC on September 2 sought the Constitution Court ruling to dissolve the People Powe Party after former deputy leader Yongyuth Tiyapairat was convictd of committing electoral fruad and banned from political activities for five years.
