The other 49 per cent opposed the capital being put under extraordinary powers, saying the government had failed to do enough to defuse tensions and prevent clashes.
The survey gathered 3,083 responses from 16 provinces.
Among the focus groups, 52 per cent of men and 49 per cent of women agreed with the emergency declaration, while the younger group appeared to be more in favour of it.
The move won approval from 61 per cent of students but only 47 per cent of civil servants and state-enterprise workers.
It is noteworthy that 47 per cent backed a possible coup if it would lead to a speedy resolution of the political strife.
