Thai shares gain on referendum move

The Thai stock market experienced trading volatility throughout the day on Friday, following political developments which including the Cabinet's endorsement to launch a referendum on political conflicts.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index swung in the negative territory in the morning session, before recouping the losses and ending with a gain of 4.92 points from the previous day. The SET Index ended the day at 654.85 points on turnover of Bt12 billion.

Brokers attributed the end-day gain to the Cabinet's resolution on the referendum, which were viewed by several parties as a means to justify the government's courses and buy more time for the beleaguered government.
