Korat trade group sends letter to PM

Nakhon Ratchasima Thai Chamber of Commerce president Khamron Kropnopparat will send Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej an open letter, asking the government to revoke the state of emergency.

Rather than easing the situation, the order hurt foreign investors' confidence and domestic tourism, he said.

In the letter, businessmen in the province also urges the government to resort to peaceful solutions or initiate a negotiation through independent intermediaries. The government should also come up with measures to shore up the economy, which would be dragged down for months. Lastly, the government must stop any actions that could further deepen the division of opinions.

Pinitnai Nakphand, a cardiac doctor at Maharaj Hospital in the province as a leader of physicians alliance against the government, said the alliance also opposed the state of emergency. It still maintained that all Cabinet members must resign without conditions, as the government has failed to boost peace but been active in dividing people.

"The state of emergency did not end problems, but it's the government's means to solve its own problem," the doctor said.
