Fewer movie-goers hit theatres

The Federation of National Film Association of Thailand (FNFAT) president Jareuk Kaljareuk admitted that the state of emergency has affected theatres business.

He remains optimistic that the committee in charge of launching the measures under the state of emergency will resolve the political deadlock and believes that consumer spending will recover.

SF Cinema president Suwat Thongrompo said that in the first half theatre business is in sluggish moods and ticket revenue dropped by 5 per cent compared to the same period last year despite the release of several Hollywood blockbusters.

However, theatre revenue this year should be worth about Bt4 billion, the level seen last year.

SF Cenima has revised down its revenue growth target to 10 per cent from 15 to 20 per cent, said Suwat.
