Hotels nationwide see fewer clients

The average hotel occupancy rate nationwide has been dropping approximately 40-50 per cent from last month, in the aftermath of the political unrest, according to the Thai Hotels Association.

Suraphong Techaruvichit, vice president of Thai Hotels Association (THA), said on Wednesday that Phuket's occupancy rate has dropped from 70 per cent last month to 50 per cent early this week and 30 per cent yesterday.

Hotels in Bangkok are running with 30-40 per cent of occupancy rate, down from 60-70 per cent last month. Hotels also suffered from the cancellation of several functions.

Hotels in Chiang Mai and Pattaya are not expected to escape the calamity.
