
Decked out in red headbands and sashes, some of Leena Jangjanja's supporters arrived at Bangkok Metropolitan Administration headquarters at 8pm Sunday to reserve space.
The men were eye-catching in traditional yellow-gold loincloths.
Leena was the first candidate to arrive, turning up at 5am, wearing white. She's calling for voters to give a woman a chance at City Hall.
Kriengsak Chareonwongsak came to register in the company of some 300 green-clad supporters. His slogan is "Dr Dan Can Do".
Supporters of the last incumbent Apirak Kosayodhin waved big blue flags emblazoned with the message "Democrats vote for Apirak". At around 7am, Apirak arrived to sign up for the contest and attracted lots of news-media attention.
Leena supporters complained loudly Apirak's contingent tried to take their places outside the headquarters. Apirak did not respond.
About his policies he says, "I have started futurebangkok.net to listen to people's opinions. My policies will be based on what people want".
People from Bang Kapi and Bueng Kum districts were out in force supporting Apirak.He's gunning for a second term in the capital's hot seat and again running on the Democrat Party ticket.
Leading in Apirak kicked his campaign of in the Silom CBD.
Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and other key members including Sukhumbhand Paribatra and Ong-art Klampaiboon turned up to support their colleague.
Massage-parlour-tycoon-turned politician Chuwit Kamolvisit surprisingly kept a low profile yesterday. There was no pomp and fanfare.
"The country is not in a normal situation. I don't think bringing cheering crowds is appropriate," Chuwit says.
Because all candidates for City Hall arrived at approximately the same time there was a draw for registration numbers.
Other aspirants have until Friday to register. The election is on October 5.
