
The business partnership is expected to create diverse customer base, as seen when Major Cineplex opened its first outlet in a Tesco Lotus store in 2002 at Bang Kapi. Since then, Major Cineplexes have been added to five stores - Samui, Phitsanulok, Krabi, Salaya and Petchabun.
New Major Cineplexes will in the last four months of this year open in another four Tesco Lotus stores - Navankhon, Ban Pong, Srinakharin (Theparak) and Nakhon Pathom.
"Until today, our cooperation was on a piecemeal, case-by-case basis. However going forward, our relationship will be more systematic." said Tesco Lotus Director and Chief Marketing Officer Gwyn Sundhagul. "This is in line with our policy to build bigger malls, which we call 'lifestyle shopping malls', to provide better service and increased convenience to our customers and to correspond with the changing lifestyle of consumers."
Wicha Poolvaraluck, chairman of Major Cineplex Group Plc, said, "The company's investment is currently aimed at expansion to cover all regions of the country, with the emphasis on provincial outlets. Our objectives in the next three years are to expand Major Cineplexes in the ratio of 40 percent in the provinces and 60 percent in Bangkok. The expansion of Major Cineplex to the provinces is bringing entertainment to meet the lifestyle demands of the new generation in those provinces."
