Businessmen urge peaceful demonstration

Provided that the anti-government protest turns violent, it would spook foreign investment, said Borworsak Uwanno, chairman of Sea Horse Plc.

He said investor confidence would be intact without any violence.

Thirapong Tangthirasunan, president of the Bank of Agriculture and  Agricultural Cooperatives, urged all parties to take into consideration the common interest of the people.

"We should love each other," he said. "Some mistakes should be forgiven while the irregularities (corruption) should be addressed by the legal process."

Yanyong Phuangrach, director-general of the Internal Trade Department, has ordered provincial trade offices to inspect retail prices of food and consumer goods to prevent retail traders from overcharging amid political conflicts.

"Some cheating traders may increase retail prices citing for the road blockades. The Commerce Ministry will send teams to inspect prices to protect consumers nationwide," he said.
