Commerce strengthens measures to control NGV/garlic

The Commerce Ministry will add Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) and garlic to its price control list soon to prevent unfair price hikes amid increasing demand of gas and garlic smugglings from China.

On Tuesday, the ministry will submit the proposal to the Cabinet for approval in order to ensure that price control measure will be effective imediately to protect consumers and local garlic growers.

Commerce Minister Chaiya Sasomsub said that the ministry must extend its control to cover those products as they are becoming essential goods for consumers.

"The department will closely monitor the price movement of both products. The inclusion should increase protection to consumers as well as restrain inflation," said Chaiya.
