For loss-making organisations, profitability is the goal, but for profitable organisations, the main goal is sustainability: how to maintain success in the long run.

At the Thailand Productivity Institute's seminar last week, Bumrungrad Hospital and Toyota revealed secrets that are turning the companies towards a brighter future. Their key messages are that strategy must be clear and must be communicated thoroughly to all units in the organisation, for collaboration determines success. Action plans must be set in line with strategy, and problems need to be solved as soon as they arise.

Never deviate from this course, they said.
