Tapioca traders propose new price

All four tapioca traders' associations will urge Commerce Minister Chaiya Sasomsap to set the cassava price at Bt1.50 to Bt2 a kilogram for the upcoming price intervention programme.

Thai Tapioca Trade Association president Chen Wongboonsin said the ministry should carefully set a reasonable price, in order to ensure sustainable growth for cassava growing and exports.

"Despite high demand for cassava in the world market for use as alternative energy, setting too high a price for the pledging programme may decrease export growth, because more countries are growing more cassava," he said. - The Nation

MRTA calls for shorter Orange Line

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority will soon propose to the Transport Ministry a plan to speed up construction of the Orange Line electrictrain route.

Governor Prapat Chongsanguan said the line was originally planned to run from the Thailand Cultural Centre to Bang Bamru in Thon Buri. However, in the proposal the route is shortened to 12 kilometres, running from the cultural centre to Bang Kapi district, where traffic jams are notorious.

Prapat expects the line to require an investment of Bt80 billion, taking into account high constructionmaterial costs and oil prices. - The Nation
