Household debts rise in 2008

Thailand's household debt rose due to higher cost of living, according to the survey by the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce.
Total debts stood at Bt2.5 trillion, the 10-year peak. Based on the number of 18.25 million households, the burden is Bt135,166 for each, up 2.2 per cent from Bt132,263 in the previous year. Sixty five per cent of the debts are loaned by organised financial institutions.
Debts per household rose though the number of household increased from 18.14 million, according to the National Statiscal Office. The Office's household debt figure was also lower in 2007, at Bt116,681.
