Economic Cabinet to be formed soon: Virabongsa

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej has agreed to activate and personally chair the Economic Cabinet which will screen agendas for the debate by the full Cabinet every week, economic chief adviser Virabongsa Ramangkura said on Friday.



The Economic Cabinet will comprise Samak, Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee and key ministers in charge of economic portfolios. Its meetings will take place every Monday ahead of the weekly Cabinet meeting.

Virabongsa said Samak has instructed Surapong and the Cabinet Secretariat to work out the details before convening a first meeting.

Key government agencies to participate in the Economic Cabinet include the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Budget Bureau, the Fiscal Policy Office and the Bank of Thailand.

Permanent secretaries of relevant ministries are to be in attendance.
