Cyber University promotes online English courses

Provide 20 modules via the web site www.thaicyberu.go.th and set up knowledge centre to support and encourage people to have experience and enjoy lifelong learning



Thailand Cyber University (TCU) is under developing English courseware to support workers in 6 areas to enhance their English skill free of charge within this year.

Supannee Somboontham, director of TCU said that the TCU is developing Interactive English Classrooms with 360 modules, designed to support workers in six industry such as tourism, automobile, fashion, food and health care which cover various occupations such as therapist, tourism, and taxi drivers. It is aim to enhance English skill and literacy to workers so that they will able to support foreigner customers.

In the first step, it will provide 20 modules via the web site www.thaicyberu.go.th or distribute CD free of charge at English Language Development Center , people and workers who want to practice English by themselves able to download edutainment courseware from website. It is expected to provide  360 modules early next year.

 "We want to solve the problem of lack English skill of Thai people and workers so that they will able to communicate with foreigners so that they country will able to create competitiveness with international country," said Supannee.

The TCU moreover has planed to expand educational opportunity by utilise information technology to increase an access and set up knowledge centre to support and encourage people to have experience and enjoy lifelong learning in order to improve and develop quality of education, knowledge management and share resource among educational institutes.

She said that the university now offers more than 430 selflearning courseware, which covers 16 educational certifications via online. There are more than 40,000 Thai people have registered to access courseware and more than 800,000 people access contents from the website. There are around 4,000 users per day access information from the web site.

She said that TCU also provides Learning Management System (LMS) to teacher more than 500 universities and educational institutes free of charge so that they will able to create their courseware by themselves and offer knowledge to their students nationwide.  

The TCU also has planed to set up 9 TCU node at universities and institutes nationwide in order to promote distance learning and so that they will able to support people in communities and create cluster to promote lifelong learning to community nationwide.
