Market volatile on foreign buys

The SET 50 Index last week closed at 487.6 points, up 12.03 points, or 2.53 per cent, from the previous week. The SET 50 Futures, S50U08 (ending September 30, the nearest contract month), on Friday settled at 488.2 points, up 14.2 points, or 3.01 per cent from the previous week.

The stock market has been very volatile over the past week. The SET index surged more than 30 points on Thursday as investors expected foreign investors would return to buy Thai shares after they saw a net buy of foreign investors for the first time over the past several months. However, the SET index fell sig¬nificantly on Friday due to the sharp fall of the Dow Jones Industrials.

Weekly trading vol¬ume on the Thailand Futures Exchange was 45,093 contracts, worth Bt21.24 billion. Of these contracts, 44,339 were SET50 Index Futures and 754 SET50 Index Options.

The volume of openinterest contracts in the market as of last Thursday stood at 25,794.
