Armed forces' reshuffle proposals to go to ministry and government

The armed forces will on Friday forward a proposed list of military rotations for the scrutiny of the Defence Ministry and the government, Supreme Commander General Boonsrang Niumpradit said yesterday.

The military reshuffle remains speculative until the completion of the vetting process by the ministry-appointed panel, he said.

Boonsrang said the three wings of the armed forces were expected to submit their lists of assignments on Wednesday and the Supreme Command would submit the combined list two days later.

He dismissed speculation that Army chief General Anupong Paochinda might succeed him when he retired in September.

The upcoming military reshuffle will be based on job qualifications and seniority rather than filling vacant seats by class quotas, he said. He also denied any political meddling in the matter.

Echoing Boonsrang, Anupong said the Army would complete its list of assignments in time for ministerial scrutiny on Friday.

Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Chalit Bhukpasuk said he was not in a position to reveal his successor, though many top contenders had emerged for the job.

Chalit refused to speculate whether the new Air Force chief would be picked from among his subordinates or from top brass at the Defence Ministry, including chief adviser Air Chief Marshal Sukamphol Suwanthat.
