Milk price hike on hold

Commerce Minister Chaiya Sasomsab on Friday said that the proposed price hikes in milk products would be delayed, until the ministry completes the study on the actual production cost following the continued drop in oil prices.

He said that the ministry would ensure that manufacturers will survive while the public would not be largely affected. The concept will also be applied to other products such as vegetable oil, which are waiting for the price hike approval.

Negotiations with manufacturers of each product category will take place, and sub-committees would be in place to handle the negotiations.

"Despite plans to push up several products prices, the ministry is confident that the 2008 inflation would be maintained at 6-7 per cent," he said.
