10 officers killed in helicopter crash in Yala

Nine Air Force officers and an army officer were killed when their helicopter crash-landed Wednesday.



Col Akara Thiproj, the army spokesman and chief of Internal Security Operations Command Region 4's Information Operation Centre, said the accident happened at 11:40 am in Sunat Tanon village in Tambon Tanoh Maeroh of Yala's Betong district.

Akara said the crash might be caused by engine's failure as the helicopter while landing.

All the ten officers on board were killed.

They were identified as:

1) Flight Lieutenant Nopporn Mingsiri, first pilot

2) Flight Lieutenant Chatchai Chujai, second pilot

3) Flight Sergeant First Class Nikom Amfong, flight mechanic

4) Flight Sergeant First Class Chaiwat Jittritip, flight mechanic

5) Flight Sergeant First Class Songkran Inthachote

6) Sergeant Sirichote Sukkul, flight rescue officer

7) Group Captain Thirapong Siksamat, deputy commander of Air Force Taskforce 9

8) Group Captain Kamol Jalwanna

9) Wing Commander Chaiwat Boonyarti

10) Colonel Wanchai Puangkhumsup, deputy commander of Pattani Taskforce.
