"Suwit offered to resign to accept his responsibility but every party member asked him to carry on leading the party to new heights," party spokesman Chaiyos Jiramethakorn said.
The joint meeting of party executives and MPs drew the conclusion that Suwit did not make a mistake because the party decided on June 23 to empower him to act pertaining to the government without having to seek a prior approval, Chaiyos said.
As things stand now, Suwit will remain the party leader while Deputy Prime Minister Mun Patanotai will be the party's man in the Cabinet, he said.
He refused to speculate whether Suwit or Mun would attend a meeting of coalition party leaders.
He also confirmed that MP Waemahadee Waeda-oh would stay on as a coalition lawmaker. Waemahadee earlier threatened to switch allegiance if Suwit left the party.
