Revenue case against Bhanapot ends

Deputy Finance Minister Pradit Pataraprasit on Tuesday insisted that the Revenue Department could not pressure Bhanapot Damapong to pay taxes for the transfer of shares in Shinawatra Computer and Communication from Pojaman Shinawatra.

He noted that the case against Bhanapot met the statutory limit, and the Revenue Department's officers would need to bear the damage worth Bt546 million.

"We can't pressure Bhanapot for the amount. What we can do now is to investigate and file charges against officers. However, this is the internal affair. I'm in no rush but we're moving along the process," he said.

Bhanapot is the step-brother of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's wife Pojaman. The Civil Court last Thursday ruled that Pojaman is guilty of avoiding tax payments worth Bt546 million, for the transfer of shares in Shinawatra Computer and Communication (now, Shin Corp) to her step-brother.
