'Take Truth of Today off the air'

The Democrat Party on Monday urged the Prime Minister to scrap the programme; The Truth of Today; from channel NBT reasoning the programme poses a major impediment to his plan to create national reconciliation within 116 days from the Mother Day to the Father Day.

Democrat Party deputy secretary-general Thepthai Senpong said the content of "The Truth of Today" on Sunday night slandered the Democrats without allowing the party to defend itself in the programme.

He said Samak granted the Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship led by ex-executives of Thai Rak Thai Party the chance to use the state media to air their opinion and since the group used the air time without justice, Samak must remove the programme.

Thepthai said the programme hosts quoted Chart Thai Party leader Banharn Silpa-archa that there was an agreement before the general election made by the Council for National Security to arrange for the Democrat Party to be the core ruling government.

"The programme hosts clearly act as leaders of the DAAC and defamed the Democrats without basis in fact and misled the public,'' he said.

He said if Samak truly wished to create national reconciliation within 116 days from August 12 to December 5, he must not allow his subordinates to widen national conflicts by allowing such programme to be on air,'' he said.
