Security intensified as court sets to rule on Pojaman's alleged tax evasion

Security will be intensified at the Criminal Court on Thursday when the Court is scheduled to rule on the tax-invasion case against former prime minister's wife Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra, her brother and her secretary.

Court secretary Narat Imsuksri said about 200 security officials, including commando and emergency police, will deployed to provide security at the court before and when the ruling is read.

"We don't want any chaos to happen on Thursday. About 200 police will be deployed. Everybody who enter the court house will have to go through metal detectors," he said. Outsiders will be prohibited from using the parking lots on Wednesday.

Pojaman, her brother and former president of Shin Corp, Bhanapot Damapong and her secretary Kanjanapa Honghern are accused of colluding to evade paying tax of Bt546 million on the transfer of shares worth Bt738 million in Shinawatra Computer and Communication.

The defendants deny the charges, arguing that the shares were a gift from Pojaman to her brother.

The Attorney-General's Office in March filed the case last year on the recommendation of the Assets Examination Committee (AEC).
