Cheats won't prosper - DSI

A gang helping civilservant recruitmentexam cheats may have its assets seized if the Department of Special Investigation catch¬es it.

Information technology investigations chief Colonel Dutsadee Arayawut says it's got its eyes on the con artists.

Instances of cheating to pass the civilservice test have grown so great the DSI is devoting resources to bust the gang.

He says the gang is sophisticated and "extensive". He says it charges state workers Bt100,000 a pop for a C ranking.

He adds its profits could be in the billions of baht.

Dutsadee says cheating is not a criminal offence. Those caught are simply disqualified from sitting the exams. So, the DSI has turned its attention to "the facilitators".

It will prosecute gang members for illegal associ¬ation and go after their assets.

He explains the gangsters send examination applications using the Internet. These are sent "suspiciously" between 2am and 4am - this means all the cheaters are seated together.
