The Criminal Court yesterday postponed for the second time a hearing to rule on whether a notorious arms dealer should be extradited to the United States.

Lawyer Lak Nitiwijarn, who represents former KGB agent Viktor Bout, said he was recuperating from a heartbypass operation and was not yet fully ready to represent his client.

The court scheduled the next hearing for September 22 at 9am.

Russian Bout, 41, was arrested in Bangkok in March while allegedly preparing to negotiate an arms deal in Thailand.

He has been dubbed the "Merchant of Death". The 2005 movie "Lord of War", starring Nicolas Cage, was supposedly inspired by Bout, while the 2007 book "Merchant of Death - Money, Guns, Planes and the Man Who Makes War Possible" is an expose of his life.
