Physics hat trick

Secondary students are bringing home three gold medals from the Physics Olympiad in Vietnam.

The annual Olympiad, held in Hanoi and winding up today, is open to secondary students who have won domestic competitions. Each national team is five strong.

Polnop Samutpraphut and Napat Phuwutthikul, both from Triam Udom Suksa School and Kawin Surakitbovorn from Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakan School won gold.

Wisaruth Pinrod and Khamin Siriwatvejjakul, both from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, won silver.

Naree Wongsirojkul of the Institute of Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology says this is Thailand's best return since first entering the competition.

The institute will welcome the victorious team home this afternoon.

Team leader, Assoc Prof Suwan Kusamran, of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, says it trained hard for the Olympiad.

He says the secret to academic excellence is paying attention in class, using imagination to clearly understand lessons and not being discouraged by tough questions.

Student Khamin says he wants the Advanced National Education Test to examine separately the three science disciplines. This will allow students to understand them thoroughly.
