The Thaicom Foundation has invited Nicholas Negroponte, founder of the "One Laptop per Child" non-profit association, to deliver his keynote speech about the project on July 31 at 5.30pm, at the King Mongkut Institute of Technology Thonburi. The project is aimed at revolutionising how children across the world are educated.
aspiring to be the best
Hewitt Associates will hold an information session on "The journey to becoming a 'best employer'" on August 1 at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel, between 1.30pm and 4.30pm. The company's country leader, Ian Till, will give an introduction to Hewitt Best Employers Study and key findings from past studies (in English language), while Teerana Konglazae, project manager, will give a presentation on the Best Employers in Thailand 2009 Study details and process (in Thai).
Thai expats
It has long been known that when a Thai company plans to expand abroad, one of the hiccups it faces is finding qualified staff to volunteer for work overseas. Hence, Busaba Chirathivat, senior vice president of Central Retail, was caught by surprise when she found that over 500 staff applied for jobs at Central's first overseas branch in Hangzhou, China, expected to open next year.
It seems that the new generation Thais is more ready to work overseas, she said.
