BOT REACHES OUT TO KIDS, TEACHERS

The central bank has established various projects since 2004 to encourage financial literacy among students in many ranges, with the hope that they will be more interested in the economy.

The bank has donated fiction and non-fiction books to primary schools, mostly located in remote areas with poor facilities.

This helps children who go to school in their bare feet to have a chance to read Harry Potter like Bangkok kids who go to school by Mercedes Benz.

The BOT has also introduced a quiz contest on economics for high school students aimed at stimulating their interest in current economic issues.

Not only the students from well-known schools in Bangkok, but also those throughout the country can participate in the contest.

This will help reduce the knowledge gap among those who sooner or later will take university entrance exams.

Teachers around the country have been able to brush up on their knowledge about economics after the BOT launched a training program taught by competent economists at the central bank.

This year, the bank has expanded the project to universities, as undergraduates and graduates who are studying for master's and doctoral degrees in economics can enter the contest by writing economic articles.

Six universities have joined the project. Chiang Mai University is host the contest in its first year.

The BOT's projects are beneficial for the students, who are expected to give back benefits for the country in the future.
