Egyptair latest member of Star AllianceAt a ceremony in Cairo on July 11, Egyptair officially became the 21st member of the Star Alliance, bringing with it 1,624 weekly flights to 69 destinations around the world.
Egyptair is the nation's flag carrier, and its membership will strengthen the alliance's network throughout Africa and the Middle East.
The announcement at the Cairo International Airport marked the end of a nine-month integration project in which the airline adapted its reservation, ticketing, frequent flyer and other customer-oriented programmes to work more closely with the infrastructure of the other members of the alliance. - The Nation

BankThai turns things around in Q2
BankThai and its subsidiaries reported an unaudited, consolidated net profit of Bt214 million for the second quarter compared to a net loss of Bt514 million in the same period last year, according to its filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand yesterday.
But the bank's separate result for the second quarter was a net loss of Bt571 million, compared to a net loss of Bt375 million in the same period last year, due mainly to a reduction in interest and dividend income of 22 per cent.
The bank and its subsidiaries posted a consolidated net loss of Bt1.874 billion for the first six months of the year, compared to a Bt44-million net gain for the same period last year. - The Nation
