Manufacturers' confidence remains deflated

Manufacturers' confidence remained subdued last month amid negative economic factors and the domestic political turmoil, a new survey by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) showed.

FTI vice chairman Adisak Rohitasune said manufacturers were pessimistic about all factors except foreign exchange.

"The overall climate affected most manufacturers; for example, the likely increase in interest rates, rising oil prices, global economic slowdown and intense political conflict. However, the softer baht helped to ease the costs of export-oriented manufacturers," he said.

The Thai Industries Sentiment Index conducted by the FTI indicated confidence increased slightly from May to last month.

"I agree with these six [stimulus] measures to ease the suffering of low-income earners in the short term, but those people should  strengthen their positions as soon as possible," Adisak said.
