EC rules in favour of Wiroon

The Election Commission on Wednesday ruled in the three-to-two majority decision not to seek a judicial review on the qualifications of Deputy Commerce Minister Wiroon Techapaiboon.

The EC justified its decision on grounds that the company linked to Wiroon had ceased operation on January 15 before he assumed office in February.

The National Counter Corruption Commission disqualified Wiroon after discovering his violation of the five per cent cap on equity stakes. It argued that it could not verify the business dissolution of the company in question.

Acting on the NCCC's ruling, a group of senators have petitioned for the judicial review on Wiroon's qualifications. The Constitution Court is deliberating on the case and has yet to form a verdict.
