Policy interest rate raised

The Monetary Policy Committee on Wednesday resolved to raise the policy interest rate by 25 basis points to 3.50 per cent, the move having been anticipated in the light of high inflation.

Many research houses expect inflation in the second half to grow at a two-digit level as oil prices have touched a new peak of US$147.27 per barrel and could rise further due to tight supply and demand.

Thailand's inflation is now expected to hit 7-8 per cent for the entire year.
