An enlightening night at the movies with Banthoon

On Monday evening, Kasikornbank - led by Khun Pan or Banthoon Lamsam, KBank's chief executive officer - invited members of the press to see the lender's eight advertisements that are to be used to promote its businesses in cinemas and on the Skytrain.

On this occasion, reporters had an opportunity to see "Red Cliff", an epic movie which is part of a famous Chinese war story, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms".

Before "Red Cliff" started, hundreds of reporters and bank employees were sitting in anticipation of seeing a piece of Chinese epic cinema, Banthoon appeared at the front to give a welcome speech.

"Today we're here only for entertainment, so please don't talk about the economy, inflation or deflation. Don't ask me when the bank will increase interest rates. Don't ask me if

I will agree with Khun Aui [MR Pridiyathorn Devakula, former Bank of Thailand governor and former finance minister] or Khun Krong [Virabongsa Ramangura, a former finance minister]. Tonight we are

only here for fun," said Banthoon.

Pridiyathorn and Virabongsa have different views of whether the central bank should raise its policy rate, representing two schools of thought.

After that, Banthoon gave some background about "Red Cliff".

"I heard that the movie we are seeing today is dazzling. The title, 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms', is similar to the situation in Thailand now.

"In the Chinese version, Zhou Yu, the great commander, suffers a bloody end. But in the Thai version, I don't know if Zhou Yu will die, or maybe no one dies in the end. However, I guess there will be no survivors," Banthoon said with a smile.

In fact, regardless of whether or not Zhou Yu dies in the Thai version, many low-income earners will be facing a deadly rise in the cost of living. They might die before anyone in the Thai version of the movie can claim victory.

And it apparently seems that no character in this epic movie would easily be able to kill inflation, one of the most implacable enemies of mankind.
