LPG price adjustment

A new pricing structure for liquefied petroleum gas is expected to be decided early next month, Energy permanent secretary Pornchai Rujiprapha said yesterday.

As chairman of the committee to solve gas shortage, Pornchai said that to complete the new price structure, the ministry needs to take into account issues including safety, the shift of usage from household to vehicles and law enforcement.

"It's on schedule, as we announced in March that LPG price would be maintained at Bt18.13 per kilogram for six months," he said, adding that there would be no more gas shortages.

PTT will import LPG this month, with 40,000 tonnes reaching the Kingdom yesterday.

It was earlier anticipated the new pricing structure, which would raise the LPG price for vehicles, would take effect this month.

Energy Minister Poonpirom Liptapanlop yesterday said the LPG price scheme would also be discussed at the Cabinet meeting today.

PTT senior executive vice Chaivat Churitti said high LPG demand had forced the company to revise the import plan. Originally, it planned to import only 40,000 tonnes this month, but the volume was subsequently adjusted up to 60,000, 80,000 and then 109,800 tonnes.
